IoT (Internet of Things) has long outgrown the purely industrial sector and has become a permanent fixture in many industries, such as healthcare, retail, utilities and the municipal sector. More and more people are now familiar with the Internet of Things from their own smart home. 

However, more and more networking also means more and more data and information and therefore more and more people who need to be informed and are therefore interrupted more and more frequently in their current work processes. This calls for intelligent communication solutions and that's where DAKS comes in!


DAKS-IoT is Based on the Node-RED Platform

Node-RED is used by almost all common IoT manufacturers. DAKS-IoT based on Node-RED enables the integration of a wide variety of sensors, regardless of manufacturer or data format. This in turn allows the smooth combination of different technologies and devices and simplifies the implementation of product updates or the replacement of individual components. Overall, Node-RED not only simplifies the effort involved in setting up and maintaining IoT environments, but also simplifies DAKS communication processes.

NEW: DAKS-IoT is Now Available on DAKS-110

The DAKS-IoT package is now available with the new DAKS-110 hardware from tetronik. The combination of in-house manufactured and perfectly synchronized software and hardware ensures the highest possible performance and reliability.

The DAKS-IoT Package consists of:

  • DAKS-110 hardware:

    • Server hardware at the cutting edge of technology and with the latest security features
    • Contact inputs
    • Contact outputs
    • PoE injector kit (D) for DAKS-110 (POE1-EN)
    • 19” rack kit, with front I/O

  • DAKS-IoT software, pre-installed:

    • DAKS-IoT Admin web interface for setup and commissioning
    • Node-RED
    • DAKS-IoT nodes
    • Selected external nodes



The Nodes – The Heart of DAKS-IoT

Previously, the DAKS IoT package provided tetronik nodes for process control, events, logging and variable determination, which are described in more detail here. The new hardware adds two new nodes, the input and output node. They are used to detect, control and evaluate the status of the hardware inputs and outputs.

As was already the case with the DAKSeco equipped with the DAKS-110 hardware, the contact inputs can be monitored for short circuits and open circuits, thus enabling reliable connection.

It gets particularly interesting when you combine the large number of freely available standard and third-party nodes with the tetronik nodes, e.g. in order to

  • connect host systems (also via RS232/422).
  • split data records into individual events.
  • create or manipulate variables and texts.
  • evaluate times of day, weeks, public holidays and measured values.
  • set up delays between activations.

1) Integration of sensors

  • Evaluate values from sensors
  • Trigger alarms if limit values are exceeded or undercut


2) Connection of contacts

  • Evaluate contact status and trigger alarms depending on the current conditions
  • Operating contact outputs, also from third-party systems
  • Transmission of contact statuses from DAKS-110 and DAKSpro to BMS → Evaluation of actions in the BMS if it is the primary system.


3) Integration in positioning systems

  • Asset tracking in connection with BLE / GIS system, e.g. in hospitals
  • When leaving an 'Area of Interest', DAKS-IoT receives an alarm with location information and transmits this information in a broadcast call.


4) Integration in HiMed

  • Transfer of broadcast call information from DAKSpro to HiMed terminals
  • Alarm text overlay in patient displays
