Emergency Surgery? No problem!

Assemble surgical teams dynamically using broadcasts with an active and powerful "substitution arrangement"

Without a doubt, the most important, expensive and critical area of any hospital, and here especially of any acute care and surgical hospital, is the operating room or theatre. At the same time, it is also the area that is affected the most when the hospital's organizational processes suffer shortcomings.

To safeguard highest professionalization of the in-hospital organization and for best efficiency, every hospital management is interested in putting their operating rooms and surgical facilities to the best possible use. For a maximum in cost efficiency while maintaining the best possible patient care, hospitals are not shying away from increasing their efforts to optimize processes, organization and cooperation in this sensible area.

Traditionally, the organizational processes in surgical areas are characterized by tight operating schedules coinciding with frequent and more often than not short-notice changes. Although and perhaps because of the fact that every surgical team must always expect sudden and acute interruptions to respond to emergencies or complications, it is often very difficult to realistically calculate the exact length of any surgical procedure. All this can easily result in highly sensitive in-hospital and in-operating room situations.

Complex tasks — great responsibility

To be better prepared and equipped for theses challenges, many hospitals and clinics utilize so-called OP managers whose job it is to walk the tightrope between including sufficient buffer time for sudden emergencies, maximizing the overall use of their surgical facilities by scheduling known operations, while at the same time minimizing the non-productive or idle periods to reduce the turnover times. In addition, hospitals and clinics create surgical statutes that govern and structure all processes of their surgical areas and facilities.

By providing the right technical support you can not only facilitate the automation of these highly complex planning tasks but also master the automation of the communication that is especially abundant when it comes to these critical in-hospital processes, and by doing so both accelerate the entire organizational processes and avoid potential stress situations from the outset.

Our Solution

DAKS works seamlessly with the contact details and process descriptions that are already stored in your hospital's management system to reliably take over all of your communications and notifications jobs.

Whenever an in-hospital emergency situation requires immediate care, the professional in charge sets off - with one mouse click on the user interface - a predefined alarm chain that automatically takes over all communications jobs to coordinate the emergency surgery:

DAKS automatically calls each and every person that is listed in the system's proxy regulations until it has successfully mobilized the complete emergency surgical team that is needed to the situation. This procedure can be monitored on the PC screen of the person who triggers the process and is also fully logged, including every confirmation received from the alerted professionals (e.g. "I am available" or "Unable to attend"). This guarantees that the complete emergency and rescue operation, including the transport of the emergency patient, is initiated instantaneously and then processed systematically.

DAKS reliably assumes and takes care of all communications jobs

When needed, DAKS intervenes directly from within the broadcast process to switch all responders into an emergency telephone conference so that important information can be shared between all members of the surgical quickly and without delay before the surgical procedure begins, e. g. updates on the patient's condition.

Of course, whenever an emergency surgical team is summoned it has immediate repercussions on the regular operating room schedule, making it necessary for the management system to immediately adjust and redesign the entire OR plan. DAKS automates this full communication process that inevitably results from this reorganization.

This includes but is not limited to the surgeon who has to interrupt his/her ongoing operation to quickly vacate the operating room for the emergency procedure, the surgical team whose scheduled operation must be postponed and the members of the transport service team who are already on their way to the operating room with a new patient. The fact that DAKS notifies every single party that is affected by this rescheduling in a delay-free and reliable manner not only alleviates many stressful situations, it also adds increased synergy for all affected partners, makes their working together more harmonious and helps to return to the routine hospital operation as quickly as possible.

Your Benefits

In a severe situation, a single emergency can entail several hundred phone calls and messages for the operating room coordinator before all necessary new planning and rescheduling is accomplished to the last detail.

In light of these facts it becomes all the more obvious why the automation of the communications processes has such profound impact on any professional operating room planning.

DAKS communicates significantly faster, safer, more reliably and last but not least more verifiably than any manual operator could deliver. Here, it is especially the posterior analyzability and evaluation of all communications processes that is of paramount value when it comes to optimizing in-hospital processes and for questions of legal safety and security.

DAKS enables you to respond quicker and more adequately to any emergency situation, helps you put the already existing capacities of your hospital to a better use and thereby increases your hospital's overall cost effectiveness. At the same time, by effectively reducing the impacts on the professionals concerned and thereby decreasing the overall occupational stress level, DAKS minimizes the risk of stress-induced wrong patient and health care decisions as well as medical malpractice.
